So as to be admitted to the program, candidates are required to be a graduate of Biology, Faculty of Science Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, they must get the required score from related test parts of ALES (Examination for Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education) and they need to certify their foreign language proficiency through central or internationally valid examinations such as KPDS,UDS,TOFEL,etc.

In order to be awarded a degree from MSc programs with thesis, candidates are required to succeed in 7 courses, a seminar and thesis study. The total workload to be accomplished for MSc programs with thesis is 120 ECTS.

Candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences are offered a variety of courses in accordance with their fields of interest by various departments of the institute while enriching their knowledge in the field of expertise. Candidates are provided with the opportunity to conduct applied researches thanks to the updated laboratories equipped with high standard infrastructures.
Genel Bilgi Kocaeli Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi 1995-1996 öğretim yılında eğitime başlamıştır. Bu dönemde Biyokimya anabilim dalı iki öğretim üyesi ile kurulmuş olup, 1. ve 2. sınıf biyokimya dersleri ve pratikleri anabilim dalı tarafından verilmiştir. Beş yüksek lisans ve bir ihtisas öğrencisi eğitime başlamış ve bir öğretim görevlisinin katılmasıyla kadrosunu oluşturmuştur. Rutin Biyokimya hastane hizmetleri ise bu dönemde Biyokimya anabilim dalı öğretim üyeleri ve asistanları tarafından anabilim dalına bağlı olarak sürdürülmüştür. Bugüne kadar anabilim dalında 6 yüksek lisans ve 5 ihtisas tezi tamamlanmıştır. Anabilim dalında mezuniyet öncesi ve sonrası eğitim programları devam etmektedir. Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine started training in the academic year 1995-1996. It was founded by two faculty members in the Department of Biochemistry, courses and practices of 1 and 2 class of biochemistry are taught by the main branch of science. The education started with five master students and one specialized master's degree student, and with the involvement of one more lecturers the academic staff was completed. Routine hospital services during this period were carried out by biochemistry faculty members and their assistant, depending on the main branch. Up to present, 6 masters and 5 specialized master's thesis were completed in the department. Undergraduate and postgraduate training programs are still continuing in the department. Several completed and run-on projects are available in the department. A large part of these researches were published in national and international journals.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral transfer is possible for students of master's and doctorate programmes who have successfully completed at least one semester at another department of the same university and the same institute, or at a master's and doctorate programme of another equivalent institute of another higher education institute. According to the related bylaws, the courses that a lateral transfer student should take within the scope of 'Programme Adjustment' are determined by the committee of the relevant department. The determination of which and how many of the previously taken courses should be recognized within scope of the minimum course load, is suggested by the advisor and the committee of the relevant department,as well. "Full Recognition" is provided upon the approval of those courses by the board of chairs of relevant institute.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of informal and non formal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

During the course period, each semester two exams are conducted as mid-term and final exam for each course. At the end of thesis period, students defend their thesis to an academic jury.
