In order to be awarded a degree from PhD programs, candidates are required to succeed in 7 courses, 2 seminars, a qualifying exam, thesis proposal and thesis study. The total workload to be accomplished for PhD programs is 240 ECTS.
Program Genel Profili Temel bilimler veya mühendislik alanlarında lisans ve/veya yüksek lisans derecesine sahip olan öğrenciler, doktora programlarında aldıkları dersler ile çalışma alanlarında derinlemesine bilgi sahibi olurken, bir problem üzerinde tez ve hipotez geliştirerek çözüme gidecek yöntemleri belirler ve uygular. Doktora programlarında öğrencilere çalışma alanlarına uygun olarak, disiplinler arası bir yaklaşımla, ilgi alanlarına göre enstitünün çeşitli anabilim dallarında dersler sunulur. Öğrenciler araştırma konularıyla ilgili deneysel çalışmaları günümüz standartlarında, yüksek teknolojik altyapıya sahip laboratuarlarda yapabilme imkânı bulurlar. Program Genel Profili

Candidates, holding Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Basic Sciences or Engineering are able to specify and apply probable solutions for a problem by suggesting thesis and hypothesis while being equipped with profound knowledge in their field of expertise. The doctorate programs in a variety of departments of the institute cover various courses offered with an interdisciplinary approach in accordance with their fields of interests. The updated laboratories equipped with high-tech infrastructures enable candidates to conduct experimental studies on their research subjects.
Genel Bilgi Elektrik Mühendisliği Anabilim Dalı 1993 yılında Kocaeli Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü bünyesinde öğretime başlamıştır. Elektrik devrelerinin modellenmesi ve analizi, elektrik makinaları tasarımı, analizi ve denetimi, güç elektroniği uygulamaları, modern kontrol yöntemleri, güç sistemleri analizi, güç sistemlerinde optimizasyon ve koruma, enerji kalitesi ve yönetimi, yenilenebilir enerji kaynakları, akıllı şebekeler konularında öğretim verilmektedir. Ayrıca bu konulardaki tez çalışmaları, Tübitak, Santez ve BAP projeleri ile desteklenmektedir. Elektrik Mühendisliği Bölümü’nde 8 adet Ar-Ge Laboratuvarı bulunmaktadır. Öğrenciler ders ve tez aşamasında Ar-Ge Laboratuvarlarından faydalanabilmektedirler. Graduates of the PhD Program of Electrical Engineering can be employed as an academician in Electrical Engineering Departments, as a researcher in research and development centers of public or private sector, as a controller and project implementer in public or private sectors relating to energy production, transmission and distribution; illumination and interior wiring, as an electrical engineer (MSc in Electrical Engineering) in public or private sectors relating to electrical machines, control and automation, power electronics and measurement, as an engineer in the areas of planning, management and efficiency of electrical energy or can work as an independent electrical engineer.
Mezunlar İçin İstihdam Olanakları Elektrik Mühendisliği Doktora mezunları; (a) Elektrik Mühendisliği ile ilgili eğitim ve öğretim kuruluşlarında akademik eleman olarak, (b) Kamu ve özel sektörün Ar-Ge merkezlerinde araştırmacı olarak, (c) Özel ve kamu kuruluşlarında; enerji üretimi, iletimi, dağıtımı, aydınlatma ve iç tesisat konularında projelendirme, uygulama ve kontrol elemanı olarak, (d) Elektrik Makinaları, Güç elektroniği, Kontrol ve Otomasyon, Ölçme konularında faaliyet gösteren kamu ve özel sektör firmalarında Elektrik Yüksek Mühendisi olarak, (e) Elektrik enerjisinin planlanması, yönetimi ve verimliliği konularında, (f) Ayrıca Elektrik Mühendisliği konularında serbest olarak da çalışabilirler. Upon successful completion of the Electrical Engineering PhD program, graduates can continue to their studies at post-doctoral programs in domestic or foreign universities on condition that they meet the admission requirements.
Mezuniyet Koşulları Yüksek lisans derecesi ile kabul edilen öğrenciler için bu program 240 akts den oluşur. Doktora programında toplam akts uzmanlık alan dersi hariç en az 7 adet ders(56 akts), anabilim dalının ders programında bulunması koşuluyla iki seminer dersi, yeterlik sınavı, tez önerisi ve tez çalışmasından oluşur. Seminer dersinin biri ders aşamasında diğeri tez aşamasında olmak üzere seçilmelidir. In order to be granted a degree, a candidate is required to; a) provide a total workload of 240 ECTS, b) achieve the qualifying exam c) release at least one academic dissertation or paper approved by refereed journal in the areas of expertise d) pass all the courses offered by the program, e) have a minimum GPA of 3.00 out of 4.00.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral transfer is possible for students of master's and doctorate programmes who have successfully completed at least one semester at another department of the same university and the same institute, or at a master's and doctorate programme of another equivalent institute of another higher education institute. According to the related bylaws, the courses that a lateral transfer student should take within the scope of 'Programme Adjustment' are determined by the committee of the relevant department. The determination of which and how many of the previously taken courses should be recognized within scope of the minimum course load, is suggested by the advisor and the committee of the relevant department,as well. "Full Recognition" is provided upon the approval of those courses by the board of chairs of relevant institute.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of informal and non formal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).
