The aim is to train expert midwives / academicians who, by combining the knowledge in the field of midwifery and other scientific knowledge, realize the health of women, mothers and children in our country and other countries, and analyze and synthesize the new knowledge learned for the development of professional midwifery, in line with Atatürk's principles and reforms, knowing his duties and responsibilities towards his country and turning them into behavior.

The mission is to train midwifes at master’s degree who are sensitive to ethical values in order for the health requirements of the society depending on the scientific advancements as well as midwifes with a decent communication skills,respectful for the human and woman rights, aware of the duty and responsibilities, able to use the management activities such as planning,organizing , executing ,evaluation and coordination and able to do a scientific research in the field of midwifery and midwifery care.

So as to be admitted to the program, candidates should be a graduate of midwifery department of Health School, they must get the required score from related test parts of ALES (Examination for Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education) and they need to certify their foreign language proficiency through central or internationally valid examinations such as KPDS,UDS,TOFEL,etc

So as to be granted a degree, students should successfully complete the courses listed in the schedule as well as accomplishing 120 ECTS credits in total and successfully complete a scientifically valid master’s thesis approved by an academic jury. Bu kapsamda Sağlık Bakanlığına bağlı kurum ve kuruluşlar (Temel ve / veya Aile Sağlık Hizmetleri kapsamında yer alan aile sağlığı ve toplum sağlık merkezleri; hastaneler ve doğum evleri); özel sağlık merkezleri, doğuma hazırlık sınıflarında ebe olarak ve üniversitelere bağlı sağlık bilimleri fakülteleri ve sağlık yüksekokullarının ebelik bölümlerinde akademisyen olarak çalışabilirler. Midwives are employed at public and private sectors as well as at universities as an academician. In this regard, they can work at institutions and organizations of the Ministry of Health (family health and public health centers in basic and/or family health care hospitals and childbirth and maternity hospitals) in private health care centers as a midwife in childbirth preparation classes, faculties of health sciences at universities and midwifery departments of vocational health schools as an academician.

Upon a successful completion of the program, graduates can continue their academic studies İN PhD programs in the related fields of study such as; women and birth diseases or nursery on condition that they get the required score from related test parts of ALES (Examination for Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education) and providing that they certify their foreign language proficiency through central or internationally valid examinations such as TOEFL,YDS,etc. The graduates can also participate in certificate programs.

Student are required to complete the course of 24 hours , succeed in the applications monitoring of 10 normal pregnant women, monitoring of 10 risky pregnant women, 5 normal childbirth, 5 normal puerperal and newborns, assisting of 5 complicated births, monitoring 5 risky newborn)and complete his own thesis successfully contributing to this field.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral transfer is possible for students of master's and doctorate programmes who have successfully completed at least one semester at another department of the same university and the same institute, or at a master's and doctorate programme of another equivalent institute of another higher education institute. According to the related bylaws, the courses that a lateral transfer student should take within the scope of 'Programme Adjustment' are determined by the committee of the relevant department. The determination of which and how many of the previously taken courses should be recognized within scope of the minimum course load, is suggested by the advisor and the committee of the relevant department,as well. "Full Recognition" is provided upon the approval of those courses by the board of chairs of relevant institute.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of informal and non formal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Examinations and assesment are carried out with regard to Kocaeli University, Examination Regulations for Undergraduate and Doctorate Degree Programmes.
