Our aim at the Department of Medical Biology is to train our graduate students in line with highest professional standarts providing a broad range of scientific knowledge in the human molecular biology, systems biology, systems genetics, bioinformatics, human molecular genetics and human molecular cytogenetics through which they can understand how human body functions at the molecular network level. Our graduates are creative, competent and capable of collaboration with researchers around the world to produce the state of art at the global level. During the training period, the graduate students will learn how to work independenly on their own, to produce original data and to present them in scientific meetings as well as to publish them in the high quality of scientific jurnals.

In addition to the general admission requirements, candidates are required to be a graduate of School of Medicine, Medical Biology Program or Medical Genetics and have a score of minimum 70 out of 100 from English Language Proficiency Test along with a 70 score requirement from ALES.

So as to be granted a degree, students are required to complete the courses and reach 240 ECTS credits in total, achieve the qualifying exam, submit a thesis proposal and successfully complete a scientifically valid dissertation approved by an academic jury within two years.
Program Genel Profili Sağlık bilimi alanlarında yüksek lisans derecesine sahip olan öğrenciler, doktora programlarında aldıkları dersler ile çalışma alanlarında derinlemesine bilgi sahibi olurken, bir problem üzerinde tez ve hipotez geliştirerek çözüme gidecek yöntemleri belirler ve uygular. Doktora programlarında öğrencilere çalışma alanlarına uygun olarak, disiplinler arası bir yaklaşımla, ilgi alanlarına göre enstitünün çeşitli anabilim dallarında dersler sunulur. Candidates holding a Master’s Degree in Health Sciences are able to specify and apply probable solution methods for a problem by developing thesis and hypothesis while being equipped with profound knowledge in their field of expertise thanks to the courses offered by the doctorate program. The doctorate programs in a variety of departments of the institute cover various elective courses offered with an interdisciplinary approach in accordance with their field of interests. Candidates are provided with the opportunity to conduct experimental studies on their field of expertise in updated and modern laboratories equipped with high technological infrastructures.
Genel Bilgi Tıbbi Biyoloji Anabilim Dalı Moleküler Sitogenetik ve Moleküler Genetik laboratuarlarına sahiptir. Bu laboratuvarlar son teknolojiyle donanmış olup uluslararası bilim üretilmektedir. Anabilim Dalında Yüksek Lisans ve Doktora programları bulunmaktadır. Anabilim Dalı aktif olarak ülke bilimine katkıda bulunmaktadır. Moleküler epidemiyoloji, yetişkin genetiği ve prenatal tanı konusunda çalışmalar yapılmaktadır. Medical Biology Department has molecular cytogenetics and molucular genetics laboratories. The laboratories are equipped with the latest technology devices and produce international knowledge and know-how. The department offers graduate and doctorate education programmes. Medical biology department actively contributes to national scientific advance. Researchers in the department study Molecular Epidemiology, Adult Genetics and Prenatal Diagnosis.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral transfer is possible for students of master's and doctorate programmes who have successfully completed at least one semester at another department of the same university and the same institute, or at a master's and doctorate programme of another equivalent institute of another higher education institute. According to the related bylaws, the courses that a lateral transfer student should take within the scope of 'Programme Adjustment' are determined by the committee of the relevant department. The determination of which and how many of the previously taken courses should be recognized within scope of the minimum course load, is suggested by the advisor and the committee of the relevant department,as well. "Full Recognition" is provided upon the approval of those courses by the board of chairs of relevant institute.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of informal and non formal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).
