Kabul Koşulları Yüksek lisans programına başvurabilmek için; Jeoloji Mühendisliği lisans diplomasına sahip olmak ve Akademik Lisansüstü Eğitim Sınavı’ndan başvurduğu programın puan türünde en az 50 standart puan veya GRE ya da GMAT sınavlarından eşdeğer bir puan almış olmak gerekir. Adayların, İngilizce/Fransızca/Almanca dillerinden herhangi biri için geçerli ulusal veya uluslararası dil sınavlarından üniversitenin belirleyeceği en az taban puana eş değer puanı almış olması gerekir. To be admitted to a master's degree, applicants must have an ALES exam score relevant to the program applied, not being less than 55 standard points or equivalent score in GRE general or GMAT. For admission into a master's program with a bachelor’s degree, applicants must have an ALES exam score relevant to the program applied, not being less than 70 standard points or an equivalent score in GRE or GMAT. The candidates should have at least 55 points from any of the English / French / German languages of UDS or KPDS (Governmental Foreign Language Proficiency Test)or an equivalent score from the exams recognized by The Council of Higher Education(CoHE) such as; IELTS or TOEFL . Applicants who meet the requirements above are eligible to take the scientific interview conducted by the department. Scientific achievement-level score of an applicant is determined by taking 50 percent of score from ALES test or an equivalent score from GRE or GMAT , 30 percent of score from oral exam and 20 percent of cumulative grade point average. In order for a candidate to be successful the scientific grade level must be at least 70. Student admission is possible at the beginning of each fall and spring semesters basing on the quota specified by the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences.

To earn the degree in the program candidates need to fulfill below mentioned requirements: a) Fulfillment of a total of 120 credits (ECTS) in the graduate program with thesis, b) Passing the graduate thesis exam successfully, c) Releasing at least one accepted article in a refereed journal or a paper in a proceedings, d) Completion all of the courses in the graduate program successfully, e) A minimum 3.00 GPA out of 4.00.

Candidates holding BSc degree in Basic Sciences or Engineering implement field specific, innovative technologies using the latest design and analysis methods while enriching their knowledge in their field of expertise thanks to the courses offered by the program. These programs in a variety of departments cover various courses offered with an interdisciplinary approach in accordance with the field of interests. Candidates are provided with the opportunity to conduct applied research activities thanks to the updated laboratories equipped with high standard infrastructures.

Geological Engineering Graduate Program was established within the Kocaeli University’s Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences in 1994.
Mezunlar İçin İstihdam Olanakları Jeoloji mühendisliği, yer ve yer sistemleri ile ilişkili insan sorunlarına yer bilimlerini uygulayan bir mühendisliktir. Geniş ve disiplinler arası bir alan olmakla birlikte, birçok özel konuda, örneğin; yerleşime uygun alanların belirlenmesi, arazi kullanım alanlarının belirlenmesi, kaya ve zemin şev duraylılığı, yeraltı sularının araştırılması, doğal ve insan kaynaklı hasarların araştırılması, deprem etkileri, toprak kirliliği, atık depolama alanının seçimi, fosil yakıt ve mineral birikimlerini araştırılması başlıca uğraşı alanlarıdır. Upon a successful completion of the program, graduates can pursue their academic studies in Ph. D programs in the related fields of study on condition that they get the required score from related test parts of ALES (Examination for Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education) and providing that they certify their foreign language proficiency through central or internationally valid examinations such as TOEFL,YDS,etc.

So as to be granted a degree from the program, a student is required to be successful in all the courses offered by the program and reach 120 ECTS in total, pass the qualifying exam and successfully complete and defend a doctoral dissertation, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3,00 out of 4,00.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral transfer is possible for students of master's and doctorate programmes who have successfully completed at least one semester at another department of the same university and the same institute, or at a master's and doctorate programme of another equivalent institute of another higher education institute. According to the related bylaws, the courses that a lateral transfer student should take within the scope of 'Programme Adjustment' are determined by the committee of the relevant department. The determination of which and how many of the previously taken courses should be recognized within scope of the minimum course load, is suggested by the advisor and the committee of the relevant department,as well. "Full Recognition" is provided upon the approval of those courses by the board of chairs of relevant institute.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of informal and non formal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students are obligated to attend at least %70 of the lectures, practical classes and other studies for each of the courses. Those who fail in this obligation cannot attend the final exams. Regular attendance at classes is a requirement for the first enrolment of each class, but, ones completed, is no longer mandatory in case of retaking the same course in the following years. Achievement of student for each course is evaluated taking the grades of mid-term and final exams, as well as the results from projects and other relevant works into account. Examinations are carried out by the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences.
