So as to be admitted to the program, candidates should be a graduate of programs in the related fields of study. The bachelor’s degrees granted from universities other than Turkey shall be approved by the Council of Higher Education. Applicants must get the required score from related test parts of ALES (Examination for Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education) or equivalent grade from GMAT or GRE exams, and they need to certify their foreign language proficiency through national or internationally recognized examinations such as KPDS,UDS,TOFEL,etc.

So as to be granted a degree from the program, students should successfully complete at least 7 courses offered by the program and reach 120 ECTS credits in total, present seminars and submit a scientifically valid master’s thesis approved by an academic jury.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral transfer is possible for students of master's and doctorate programmes who have successfully completed at least one semester at another department of the same university and the same institute, or at a master's and doctorate programme of another equivalent institute of another higher education institute. According to the related bylaws, the courses that a lateral transfer student should take within the scope of 'Programme Adjustment' are determined by the committee of the relevant department. The determination of which and how many of the previously taken courses should be recognized within scope of the minimum course load, is suggested by the advisor and the committee of the relevant department,as well. "Full Recognition" is provided upon the approval of those courses by the board of chairs of relevant institute.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of informal and non formal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

  • Knowing wear phenomena and process on materials, developing test methods and applying numerical solution methods
  • Examining the effects of alternative fuels used in internal combustion engines on the engine performance, injection, combustion and emission characteristics
  • Examining fatigue strain, break, loading cycles and fundamental subjects
  • Knowing principles of measurements and measuring methods performed on engines and vehicle body.
  • Performing parametric design and analysis
  • Determining the generalized coordinates and degree of freedom of the systems, deriving mathematical models and movement models of dynamic systems
  • Examining air pollution and effects of vehicles on air pollution, emission standards for internal combustion engines, emission control techniques, fundamental and alternative fuels
  • Applying the first and second laws of thermodynamics to open systems, internal combustion engines and other power cycles
  • Getting acquired with air conditioning systems, analyzing the cycles used in these systems and determining the performance of automotive air conditioning systems experimentally
  • Producing biodiesel from different feedstock, and to apply the standards and test methods in biodiesel production
  • Examining and discussing dynamic movements of mechanical systems and vehicles
  • Performing fundamental calculations, experimental measurements and analyses related with internal combustion engines
  • Examining applications of power transmission elements in vehicles and performing their calculation
  • Performing engine tests, fault diagnosis, ECU design and ECU programming
  • Comprehending the fundamentals of microcomputer systems and performing programming
  • Performing literature study about a subject and defining a scientific problem
  • Being able to apply power electronics in hybrid and electric vehicles
