Kabul Koşulları YÖK’ün ilgili mevzuatı doğrultusunda ÖSYM tarafından belirlenir. Programa kayıt yaptırmak isteyen öğrencinin, ÖSYM tarafından düzenlenen sınavlarda program için öngörülen puanı alarak başarı göstermesi gerekmektedir. Yurtiçi veya yurtdışında eşdeğer programda öğrenimine başlamış bir öğrenci, üniversite tarafından kontenjan açıldığı takdirde yatay geçiş için başvuru yapabilir. Admission requirements are set by OSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center) according to the regulations prepared by YOK (Higher Education Council). The students who are willing to enter the program should obtain the necessary scores in the exams given by OSYM. The students who had registered to an equalivalent program in Turkey or abroad can apply to transfer to the program if the university allocates quotas to tranfer. The transfer applications are evaluated according to the specific conditions of the students and related regulations.

So as to get a degree students have to fulfill minimum 120 ECTS requirement, ), perform two Summer Internships of 30 calendar days at the end of each year (2nd and 4th semesters, have minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00 and pass all the courses listed in the program.
Program Genel Profili Sağlık hizmetlerine olan talebin artması, sağlık hizmetinden yararlananlar ve sağlık hizmeti sunucularının beklentilerindeki değişim gibi faktörler sağlık hizmetlerinin sekreterlik işlemlerinin yürütecek meslek grubunu gerektirmiştir. Bu hizmetleri yürütecek yetkinlikteki tıbbi sekreterler, ön lisans düzeyindeki Tıbbi Dokümantasyon ve Sekreterlik programında yetiştirilirler. The factors such as increasing in demand for health services, expectations of health care providers, and health services beneficiaries have required the health care profession to carry out secretarial procedures. Medical secretaries, competent to carry out these services, are trained associate degree level in Medical Documentation and Secretarial Program . During medical secretary education, students gain the transferred experiences about knowledge and skills related to their professions, professional ethical values, commitment and good communication with patients.

The program trains medical secretaries who are qualified to work at the reception, admission, billing, statistics, medical archive, outpatient and inpatient service units of private and public health care institutions; and who are very well trained in computer usage, medical terminology, medical records and medical documents, the international coding system (ICD-10 CM), who are equipped with the necessary knowledge, who have the skills needed in hospital information system, who can rapidly access to needed information via the Internet, who are competent on office management and communication skills, who always respect patient rights with an awareness of professional responsibility.
Mezunlar İçin İstihdam Olanakları Program mezunları kazandıkları yeterlilik doğrultusunda; kamu ve özel sağlık kuruluşlarında (Hastaneler, tıp merkezleri, Aile sağlığı merkezleri gibi) Tıbbi Sekreter, Hasta Danışmanı, Hasta Dosyaları Arşivisti, Yönetici Sekreteri ve ayrıca Muayenehanelerde, Sağlık Sigortası kuruluşlarında sekreterlik hizmetlerinin yürütülmesinde çalışabilirler. Upon a successful completion of the associate program, so as to get a bachelor’s degree, students can apply to programs of related field(s) such as; Health Care Management and Health Education, on condition that they get the required score from Vertical Transfer Exam conducted by OSYM. (Student Selection and Placement Center).
Mezuniyet Koşulları Programı tamamlayarak önlisans derecesini alabilmek için her yarıyıl ilgili danışmanın yönlendirmesiyle kayıt yaptırılan tüm derslerden ve staj vb. yükümlülüklerden devam koşulunun yerine getirilerek başarılı olunması gerekmektedir. To obtain the associate degree and complete the program, the students have to register, fulfill the attendance requirement and pass all the courses and internships recommended by the advisor each semester. The students fulfill the graduation requirement by taking 120 ECTS credits.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral or vertical transfer student admission is carried out basing on the "The Transfer Regulations for Associate and Undergraduate Degrees, Double Majors, Sub-specialties and Credit Transfer Regulations among Institutions". The prior learning of transfer students is recognized as per the relevant regulations of Council of Higher Education and under the coordination of the Adaptation Committee.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of non-formal and informal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Program Competencies

  • Knows the medical terminology, terms and concepts related to human anatomy required by the field of Medical Documentation and Secretariat and uses them without error.
  • Gains basic and advanced knowledge and skills about computer office programs, tools and information technologies required for applications in the field of Medical Documentation and Secretariat.
  • Professionally evaluates and applies the knowledge gained from basic level theoretical and practical courses supported by textbooks, practice tools and other resources containing current information in the field of Medical Documentation and Secretariat.
  • He/She informs relevant people and institutions by using her basic knowledge and skills on issues related to the field of Medical Documentation and Secretariat, and conveys her thoughts and solution suggestions to problems in written and oral form.
  • Knows the institutions and organizations within the health system+on an organizational basis, and acts in accordance with the laws, regulations, legislation and ethical values regarding her duties, rights and responsibilities as an individual working in her field.
  • With his knowledge and skills in using the Hospital Information Management System, he carries out registration, provisioning, request receiving, discharge and billing procedures according to the patient's social security; performs coding of surgeries and diseases and prepares relevant statistics.
  • He/she acquires individual awareness by improving himself/herself professionally, socially and culturally.
  • Can use Turkish and a foreign language effectively for academic and professional purposes, follows information about developments in the field at national and international levels and can communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Acts in accordance with quality management and processes by being a part of the team to solve unforeseen complex problems encountered in applications related to the field of Medical Documentation and Secretariat, and assumes individual responsibility when necessary.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Prepares medical records, medical reports and professional correspondence effectively and quickly in accordance with the rules of the Turkish language.
  • Medical archives by ensuring the mobility, security and protection of patient files with the necessary legislation information for the creation and operation of medical archives carries out its services.
  • Acts in accordance with social, scientific, cultural and ethical values ??during the collection, interpretation, application and announcement of results of data related to the field of Medical Documentation and Secretariat.
  • Gains awareness of the necessity of lifelong learning, monitoring developments in science and technology and constantly renewing oneself.
  • Has sufficient awareness about environmental protection, occupational health and safety, individual and public health, and healthy living.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Examination, assessment and grading procedure is mainly based on Kocaeli University Education and Training Regulations for Associate and Undergraduate Degrees Depending on the nature of the course various instruments such as midterms, final exams, short exams, presentations, assignments, projects, portfolios and applications may be involved in the assessment process of a semester on condition that students are informed about their weights upon registry. Contribution of these activities to final grading range between 30% -70% and So as to be eligible to take the final exam, a student has to fulfill the attendance requirement of 70% for theoretical and 80 % for practical courses. Once this requirement is fulfilled, attendance is not required again in case of a failure and retaking that course. Final grading of a course is determined on the basis of semester studies and final exam. Those with certified and officially approved excuses are also given a makeup exam.
