The aim of KMYO Air Conditioning and Refrigerating Technology is to train technical staff who has adequate knowledge and skills about air conditioning, ventilating and refrigerating and a computer control of all equipment, tools, hardware, systems and technological structures, promotion, design, installation, operation, maintenance, repair and development issues which are used in industrial and commercial business.

The mission of this program is to educate students in the direction of air conditioning, ventilating and refrigerating sector’s needs that enquires to know basic professional knowledge, use computer programs, so that one can see the relationship between machine parts, has the professional skills, giving worldwide, systematic and planned work, team work, has the ability to problem-solving, taking responsibility, along with the social and technological developments.

Upon a completion of a high school, students are admitted and placed to the program basing on the scores of a central exam conducted by OSYM(Student Selection and Placement Center). There is no examination requirement for the graduates of General Vocational High Schools of relevant field of study, however they need to fulfill the transition requirements.. Exchange student admission is also possible via bilateral agreement.

Parallel to its day-by-day increasing importance, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration is a program that covers various areas from daily life applications to the industrial use. Students in the program are instructed on basic principles and application areas of air conditioning and refrigeration.
Genel Bilgi Çağdaş teknolojinin oluşmasında en önemli rolü oynayan sektörlerden birisi iklimlendirme-soğutma teknolojisi alanıdır. Bu alan, sayısal sistemler, bilgisayar, iklimlendirme, havalandırma ve soğutma sistemlerini kapsamaktadır. Bu programda, iklimlendirme, havalandırma ve soğutma sistemlerinin, kurulması ve işletilmesinde çalışacak öğrencilere, üretim elemanı ile mühendis arasında teknikerlik düzeyinde eğitim vererek, sektöre vasıflı işgücü sağlamak amaçlanmaktadır. Considering the all sectors to form the contemporary technology, one of the most important roles is played by Air Conditioning and Refrigeration area. It comprises numerical systems, computer, air conditioning, ventilating and refrigeration. The aim of this program is to provide the sector with skillful and qualified manpower by training intermediate staff as “technicians” who can work on the production, installation and operation of air conditioning, ventilating and refrigeration systems. Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Program in Kocaeli Vocational School has joined with the Industrial Training Project by the approval of the Board of Higher education and the World Bank II in 1988. Thus, it has been taken the advantages and benefited opportunities of the project such as; managers and teaching staff training programs, workshops and the renovation of laboratories with the contemporary equipment.
Mezunlar İçin İstihdam Olanakları İklimlendirme ve Soğutma Teknolojisi programından mezun olan öğrenciler kazandıkları yeterlikler doğrultusunda; İklimlendirme, havalandırma ve soğutma, makine, ulaşım, otomotiv, gıda, petrol, ilaç, demir çelik sektöründe mal/hizmet üreten sanayi kuruluşlarında, küçük ve orta ölçekli işletmeler ve kamu kurumlarında “Tekniker” olarak istihdam edilirler. Students who have graduated from Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Program, in accordance with their qualifications, can be employed as “ a Technician” in air conditioning and refrigeration machinery, transportation, automotive, food processing, oil, pharmaceuticals, iron and steel industry, in producing goods/services in industrial enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises and public institutions. They can also can work independently.

Upon a successful completion of the associate program, so as to get a bachelor’s degree, students can apply to programs of related field(s) such as; Mechanical Engineering on condition that they get the required score from Vertical Transfer Exam conducted by OSYM. (Student Selection and Placement Center). Anadolu University Distance Learning Bachelor’s Degree Programs are also available for our graduates.
Mezuniyet Koşulları Bu programdan mezun olabilmek için öğrencilerin; öğretim planında belirtilen toplam 120 AKTS değerindeki zorunlu ve seçmeli dersleri alması ve başarması; iklimlendirme ve soğutma alanı ile ilgili bir işletmede 30 günlük zorunlu stajını başarı ile tamamlamış olması; genel not ortalamasının 4,00 üzerinden en az 2,00 olması gerekmektedir. To graduate from this program, students must take and succeed the compulsory and elective courses in the value of a total of 120 ECTS which have been given in the program, and have at least 2.00 point of average 4.00, relatively. Also, it is required to complete with success mandatory 30-day internship in a business area.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral or vertical transfer student admission is carried out basing on the "The Transfer Regulations for Associate and Undergraduate Degrees, Double Majors, Sub-specialties and Credit Transfer Regulations among Institutions". The prior learning of transfer students is recognized as per the relevant regulations of Council of Higher Education and under the coordination of the Adaptation Committee.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of non-formal and informal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Examination, assessment and grading procedure is mainly based on Kocaeli University Education and Training Regulations for Associate and Undergraduate Degrees Depending on the nature of the course various instruments such as midterms, final exams, short exams, presentations, assignments, projects, portfolios and applications may be involved in the assessment process of a semester on condition that students are informed about their weights upon registry. Contribution of these activities to final grading range between 30% -70% and So as to be eligible to take the final exam, a student has to fulfill the attendance requirement of 70% for theoretical and 80 % for practical courses. Once this requirement is fulfilled, attendance is not required again in case of a failure and retaking that course. Final grading of a course is determined on the basis of semester studies and final exam. Those with certified and officially approved excuses are also given a makeup exam.
