The aim of Labour Economics Master's degree programme is enabling the use of the knowledge received during bachelor's degree, developing share of knowledge and experience regarding the parties of labour life in local, national and international levels and raising professionals equipped with necessary knowledge, qualifications and methods for academy and labour life.

Kabul Koşulları Çalışma Ekonomisi yüksek lisans programına başvurabilmek için, Akademik Lisansüstü Eğitim Sınavının (ALES) Eşit Ağırlık puan türünden en az 55 puan almak ve geçerli ulusal veya uluslararası dil sınavlarından birinden üniversitenin belirleyeceği en az taban puana eşdeğer puan almış olmak gerekir. Bu koşulları sağlayarak başvuru yapan adaylar arasından bilimsel mülakat sınavı yapılarak kontenjan dahilinde öğrenci alınır. Değişim öğrencilerinin programa kabulü ikili anlaşmalar çerçevesinde yapılmakta ve Uluslararası İlişkiler Birimi tarafından yürütülmektedir. In order to apply to Labour Economics Master’s Programme, it is required to get a minimum score of 55 from the Graduate Education Exam (ALES) and a foreign language score which is equal to the level determined by the university from a valid national or international language exam. An interview is conducted to the candidates by an academic jury. Students who have fulfilled these pre-conditions and who are successful in the oral exam are accepted to the program at the beginning of Fall semester. Acceptance of exchange program students are conducted within the scope of bilateral agreements and the procedure is carried out by International Office Department. While admission of national students is executed by Farabi exchange Program Department, admission of international students is executed by Student Affairs Department.
Dereceyi Alabilme Koşulları, Kuralları Tezli yüksek lisans programından yüksek lisans derecesi alabilmek için adayların en az yedi adet ders, bir seminer dersi ile tez çalışmasını başarıyla tamamlaması gerekmektedir. In order to be awarded a degree from MSc programs with thesis, candidates are required to succeed in 7 courses, a seminar and thesis study. The total workload to be accomplished for MSc programs with thesis is 120 ECTS.

Candidates, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, conduct field specific studies using qualitative and quantitative research methods while enriching their knowledge in the field of expertise thanks to the courses offered by the Master’s Program. Candidates are offered a variety of elective courses appealing to candidate’s fields of interests with an interdisciplinary approach by various departments of the institute.
Genel Bilgi Çalışma Ekonomisi yüksek lisans programı, Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü bünyesinde eğitim vermektedir. Programın ilk yılında öğrencilere iki yarıyıl boyunca toplam 60 AKTS çalışma yükü karşılığı zorunlu ve seçmeli dersler okutulmaktadır. Derslerini başarıyla tamamlayan öğrenciler kendilerinin seçeceği bir akademik danışmanın yönlendirmesinde yüksek lisans tez çalışmasına başlarlar. En az iki yarıyıl süren yüksek lisans tez çalışmasında sosyal politika, endüstri ilişkileri, çalışma ekonomisi, iş ve sosyal güvenlik hukuku, çalışma sosyolojisi veya çalışma psikolojisi bilim alanlarından birinde teorik bilgi ve alan araştırması içeren bir çalışma yaptırılır. Labour Economics Master’s Degree program is one of the programs within Social Sciences Institute. In the first year of the program, students take courses from different fields corresponding 60 ECTS during two semesters. After completing all courses successfully, students start studying on their master thesis. Those theses which take 2 or 4 semesters normally base on theoretical and/or empirical researches about social policy, industrial relations, labour economics, labour and social security law.
Mezunlar İçin İstihdam Olanakları Çalışma Ekonomisi yüksek lisans programı mezunlarının çalışma alanları ulusal ve uluslararası ölçekte çeşitlidir. Bu bölümden mezun olanlar, kamu ve özel sektör işletmelerinin özellikle insan kaynakları yönetimi ile endüstri ilişkileri birimlerinde ve işçi-işveren sendikalarının farklı kademelerinde uzman olarak istihdam edilebilmektedirler. Çalışma ve Sosyal Güvenlik Bakanlığı ile Aile ve Sosyal Politikalar Bakanlığı bünyesinde müfettiş, uzman ya da ateşe olarak görev yapabilmektedirler. Mezunlar, çalışma yaşamında son yıllarda gözlenen değişime bağlı olarak Türkiye İş Kurumu başta olmak üzere istihdam danışmanlığı hizmeti veren tüm kuruluşlarda da görev alabilmektedirler. Employment fields of Labour Economics master's degree graduates are various in national and international levels. Graduates of this program may be employed as inspector, specialist, director and consultant in human resources or personnel departments of private or public institutions, namely Ministry State Planning Organization and Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Beside those alternatives, they also have the opportunity to work as inspector, specialist or attaché within the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and Family and Social Policies Ministry. Moreover, graduates increasingly find the chance to work in many institutions or companies offering employment consultancy service, notably Turkish Labour Institute due to the recent changes in working life. Moreover, the employment possibility in international institutions, namely OECD, ILO, and international joint ventures increases rapidly due to the foreign language profficiency.

Graduates with the master’s degree in labour economics may apply to domestic or foreign doctorate programs in related fields.

Students who reach 120 ECTS credits by completing all mandatory and elective courses in curriculum successfully and submit master’s thesis under the supervision of an academic advisor are granted a degree.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral transfer is possible for students of master's and doctorate programmes who have successfully completed at least one semester at another department of the same university and the same institute, or at a master's and doctorate programme of another equivalent institute of another higher education institute. According to the related bylaws, the courses that a lateral transfer student should take within the scope of 'Programme Adjustment' are determined by the committee of the relevant department. The determination of which and how many of the previously taken courses should be recognized within scope of the minimum course load, is suggested by the advisor and the committee of the relevant department,as well. "Full Recognition" is provided upon the approval of those courses by the board of chairs of relevant institute.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of informal and non formal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Each student must attend at least 70% of the courses, applications and other studies of the semester s/he is enrolled for. Students who have not fulfilled this obligation are not allowed to take the final exam of related courses. Once the student fulfilled the attendance requirements in courses, no attendance is required if the course is repeated later. While determining the course grade, in addition to the performance of the student on midterm and final exams, project and/or short assignment performances are added to the final evaluation as well. Examinations are arranged and conducted by the Social Sciences Institute.
