The reason being of Tourism and Hotel Management Program is to educate, in the light of scientific knowledge, qualified tourism and hotel staffs who open to change and development, have social awareness and responsibility, have problem-solving capabilities, learn the ways of access to information, are able to practice their profession in accordance with national and/or international standards, give importance to Atatürk's Principles and Revolutions, are faithful to modern, democratic and social state of law.

Tourism and Hotel Management Program's vision is to become a program leader and pioneer to educate intermediate staff in tourism and hotel services. This program should adapt to the changing scientific and social conditions of twenty-first century easily, have high-level knowledge and skills, be familiar to team work and sharing culture, be sensitive to public health and responsibilities and have initiative.
Kabul Koşulları Yükseköğretim Kurulu tarafından belirlenen yönetmelikler çerçevesinde programa öğrenci kabulü merkezi sınav ile yapılmaktadır. Öğrenciler, öğrenim görmek istedikleri program tercihlerini bildirdikten sonra sınavdan aldıkları puana göre Öğrenci Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi tarafından ilgili programlara yerleştirilmektedir. Uluslararası öğrenciler, Yükseköğretim Kurulu tarafından belirlenen kurallar çerçevesinde uluslararası geçerliliği olan sınavlarla kabul edilmektedir. Değişim öğrencilerinin programa kabulü ikili anlaşmalar çerçevesinde yapılmaktadır. Uluslararası Değişim öğrencilerinin kabulünü Uluslararası İlişkiler Birimi, ulusal değişim öğrencilerinin kabulünü Farabi Değişim Programı Birimi yürütmektedir. Student admission to the program is made through a central examination. Students are placed in the relevant programs by the Student Selection and Placement Center according to the scores they get from the exam after they notify the program preferences they want to study. Students can apply for lateral transfer within or out of Turkey in case a quota is provided for them. Lateral Transfer student admission is declared after the evaluation of the applicant’s academic standing. Exchange student admission is also possible within the framework of agreements and protocols.

Program Genel Profili Gün geçtikçe artan önemine paralel olarak, turizm sektörüyle ilgili çeşitli alanlardaki uygulamaları kapsayan bir programdır. İsteyen öğrencilere kontenjan dahilinde bir yıl süreli İngilizce Hazırlık Programı uygulanır. Hazırlık programı süresi, öğretim süresi sütununda gösterilen yıllara dâhil değildir. Öğrenciler, 3 dönem okulda teorik ve uygulamalı dersler ile 1 dönem işletmelerde uygulamalı eğitim alırlar. Turizm sektörüne ilişkin temel bilgiler alır ve uygulama alanlarına ait bilgiler kazanırlar. Parallel to its increasing importance day by day, it is a program that covers applications in various fields related to the tourism sector. A one-year English Preparatory Program is applied to students who wish, within the quota. The duration of the preparatory program is not included in the years shown in the education period column. Students receive theoretical and applied courses at school for 3 semesters and practical training in businesses for 1 semester. Students learn basic information about tourism sector and its application areas. Besides academic studies, in order to increase regional and countrywide tourism potential, applied trainings support students' theorical information.
Genel Bilgi Ulusal ve uluslararası alanda gelişmeyi sağlayan ve ekonomik katkı oluşturan, tüm dünya insanlarını ortak amaçlar çerçevesinde birleştirme ve tanıtma faaliyetlerinde en önemli rolü oynayan sektörlerden birisi turizm sektörü ve turizmle ilgili alanlardır. Kocaeli Üniversitesi, Derbent Meslek Yüksekokulu bünyesinde turizm ile ilgili öğretim programlarını oluşturmuş ve 1994 yılında öğrenci alımına başlamıştır. Turizm ve Otel işletmeciliği (I. ve II. öğretim), Turizm ve Seyahat Hizmetleri ile Turist Rehberliği Programlarında eğitim ve öğretime devam edilmektedir. Tourism sector and tourism-related areas are the sectors that play an important role in development and economic contribution to national and international level. In addition, tourism joins people of the whole world within the framework of common goals and plays a crutial role in promoting activities. Derbent Vocational School programs began to the admission of students in 1994. The programme aims to train qualified staff who can be employed in management or service supply phases in tourism and hospitality or who can run their own businesses in tourism related fields.
Mezunlar İçin İstihdam Olanakları Turizm ve Otel İşletmeciliği programından mezun olan öğrenciler kazandıkları yeterlikler doğrultusunda; turizm sektöründe mal/hizmet üreten, küçük ve orta ölçekli işletmeler, sanayi kuruluşları ve kamu kurumlarında istihdam edilirler. The graduates of Tourism and Hotel Management are able to work in tourism related small and medium size businesses, industrial and governmental institutions according to their qualifications.

Upon successful completion of the programme in order to get a Bachelor's degree graduates are able to apply Tourism Faculty and other field related undergraduate programs via vertical transfer if they take Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) Vertical Exam and get required score.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral or vertical transfer student admission is carried out basing on the "The Transfer Regulations for Associate and Undergraduate Degrees, Double Majors, Sub-specialties and Credit Transfer Regulations among Institutions". The prior learning of transfer students is recognized as per the relevant regulations of Council of Higher Education and under the coordination of the Adaptation Committee.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of non-formal and informal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Examination, assessment and grading procedure is mainly based on Kocaeli University Education and Training Regulations for Associate and Undergraduate Degrees Depending on the nature of the course various instruments such as midterms, final exams, short exams, presentations, assignments, projects, portfolios and applications may be involved in the assessment process of a semester on condition that students are informed about their weights upon registry. Contribution of these activities to final grading range between 30% -70% and So as to be eligible to take the final exam, a student has to fulfill the attendance requirement of 70% for theoretical and 80 % for practical courses. Once this requirement is fulfilled, attendance is not required again in case of a failure and retaking that course. Final grading of a course is determined on the basis of semester studies and final exam. Those with certified and officially approved excuses are also given a makeup exam.
