Amaç Güncel olarak Otomotiv Mühendisliğinde karşılaşılabilecek problemleri tanımlayan, analiz ve sentez yaparak çözümleyebilen; bilişim ve iletişim teknolojilerini etkili biçimde kullanabilen; mühendislik hesaplamalarını yapabilen; otomotiv mühendisliğine ilişkin eğitim öğretimi planlayabilen, uygulayabilen, değerlendirebilen, geliştirebilen; mesleki, ahlaki ve sosyal sorumluluklarını bilen profesyonel kişiler yetiştirmektir. Aynı zamanda öğrencilerin otomotiv teknolojilerindeki son gelişmeler doğrultusunda yetişmelerini sağlamak, laboratuar ve Ar-Ge faaliyetleri yürüterek otomotiv sektörünün teknolojik seviyesinin yükselmesine katkıda bulunmaktır. To train professional staff who can identify problems encountered in Automotive Engineering, solve problems by analysis and synthesis, use information and communication technologies effectively, perform engineering calculations, plan education on automotive engineering along with implementation, evaluation and development of it, and be aware of professional, ethical and social responsibilities.Moreover, to ensure that students are trained in line with the latest developments in automotive technology, laboratory and carrying out R&D.
Misyon Otomotiv sektörünün ihtiyaç duyduğu konularda yeterli bilgiye sahip, teknolojik gelişmelere katkıda bulunarak, uluslararası norm ve tanımlara uygun, kaliteli ve uygulama odaklı eğitim vererek, araştırmacı kimliğe sahip nitelikte mühendisler yetiştirmektir. Department of Automotive Engineering focuses on not only theoretical information but also Professional applications. In this context, automotive engineering students perform one-term practicing study in the seventh and eighth semesters in the leading companies of the automotive industry.
Genel Bilgi Ülkemizde otomotiv sektörünün hızlı bir şekilde gelişmesi sonucu bu sektör, endüstrinin liderlerinden biri haline gelmiştir. Türkiye’yi geleceğin otomotiv üretim merkezi olarak görmekte olan otomotiv üreticileri, bu alandaki yatırımlarını her geçen gün artırmaktadırlar. Buna bağlı olarak, ülkemizdeki otomotiv yan sanayi de hızlı bir gelişme kaydetmektedir. Mevcut üretimle birlikte, birçok otomotiv firmasının ülkemizde bu alana yatırım yapması ve Ar-Ge Merkezi kurması sektördeki mühendis istihdamını da artırmaktadır. Ülke ekonomisine ciddi katkılar sağlayan bu sektörün ihtiyaç duyduğu mühendisler genel olarak; makine, elektrik, elektronik, bilgisayar, mekatronik mühendisliği gibi lisans programları mezunlarından karşılanmaktadır. In our country, as a result of rapid development of the automotive industry, this sector has become one of the leaders of the industry. Automotive manufacturers, who foresee that Turkey will be a center for automotive manufacturing, make investments in this area with an increasing rate. As a result, development of the automotive sub-industry makes progress rapidly in our country. Along with current production, investments and R&D centers established by many automotive companies there is an increase in the employment rate of engineers in industry. The engineers required by this sector, who contribute to the national economy substantially, are usually recruited from the graduates of the BS degree programs of mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer, mechatronics engineering. The foundation of automotive engineering programs at universities is important for providing the sector with research engineers trained for design and technology development. For this reason, in the world and in our country, Automotive Engineering Departments are opened in the universities which aim to educate engineers, managers and technical staff who can take part in this sector.
Mezunlar İçin İstihdam Olanakları Bölümün mezunları, doğrudan otomotiv sanayii veya yan sanayisi ile ilgili bir işletmede görev üstlenebileceklerdir. Teknoloji Fakültesi mezunu Otomotiv Mühendisi ilk işe başladığında AR-GE, Ürün Tasarımı, Ürün Test, Ürün Geliştirme, Sistem Mühendisliği, Alan Mühendisliği (Saha Mühendisliği), Teknik Operasyonlar ve Kalite Kontrol gibi görevlerde çalışabilir. Graduates of the department can work in a company related with automotive industry or sub-industry. Undergraduate students who complete the program can continue their academic studies in master's and doctorate programs in related fields of automotive engineering as long as they provide the necessary conditions for the programs applied for.

In order to be a graduate of the Department of Automotive Engineering, it is required to be succesfull from eight semester courses of 240 ECTS credits, compulsory and elective courses and activities specified in the Regulations including internships and industrial practicing.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral or vertical transfer student admission is carried out basing on the "The Transfer Regulations for Associate and Undergraduate Degrees, Double Majors, Sub-specialties and Credit Transfer Regulations among Institutions". The prior learning of transfer students is recognized as per the relevant regulations of Council of Higher Education and under the coordination of the Adaptation Committee.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of non-formal and informal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Program Competencies

  • Adequate knowledge in engineering subjects related to mathematics, science and automotive engineering; the ability to use theoretical and applied knowledge in these areas in complex engineering problems.     
  • Ability to identify, define, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems; ability to select and apply appropriate analysis and modeling methods for this purpose.
  • The ability to design a complex system, process or product under realistic constraints and conditions to meet specific requirements; ability to apply modern design methods for this purpose. (Realistic constraints and conditions include elements such as economy, environmental impacts, sustainability, feasibility, ethics, health, safety, social and political impacts, depending on the nature of the design.)  
  • Ability to develop, select and use modern techniques and tools required for applications in the field of Automotive Engineering; ability to use information technologies effectively.
  • Ability to design and conduct experiments, collect data, analyze and interpret results for the investigation of automotive engineering problems.
  • Ability to work individually and in teams in the field of Automotive Engineering and to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Turkish oral and written communication and reporting skills; Knowledge of at least one foreign language.
  • Awareness of the necessity of lifelong learning; the ability to access information, to follow developments in science and technology, and to constantly renew itself.
  • Professional and ethical responsibility awareness
  • Information about business life practices such as project management, risk management and change management; awareness of entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability
  • Knowledge about the universal and social effects of automotive engineering applications on health, energy, environment and safety and the problems of the age; awareness of the legal consequences of automotive engineering solutions.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Examination, assessment and grading procedure is mainly based on Kocaeli University Education and Training Regulations for Associate and Undergraduate Degrees Depending on the nature of the course various instruments such as midterms, final exams, short exams, presentations, assignments, projects, portfolios and applications may be involved in the assessment process of a semester on condition that students are informed about their weights upon registry. Contribution of these activities to final grading range between 30% -70% and So as to be eligible to take the final exam, a student has to fulfill the attendance requirement of 70% for theoretical and 80 % for practical courses. Once this requirement is fulfilled, attendance is not required again in case of a failure and retaking that course. Final grading of a course is determined on the basis of semester studies and final exam. Those with certified and officially approved excuses are also given a makeup exam.
